A New Build Family House, Surrey

The Brief

This is a large room, 10.8m x 9.1m, in a house of 1000 sqm. The size of the house has allowed for big dining, family, lounge, utility and wine store rooms on the ground floor as well as the kitchen. Size presented its own problems. It meant that, although large, the kitchen needed only a moderate family table and simple family area. If these were made to cater for all occasions it could mean rendering the other rooms unused.

Visually the furniture needed to be warm and stylish with sufficient size to reduce the impact of the scale of the space. Simply put, it required a few bold statements rather than too much small detail.
