A Luxurious Study for Green Amber Ltd

Luxurious

Simon Bray was recently commissioned to design and install an opulent study in another luxury development by Green Amber Ltd.

The property in Kent benefited from award-winning designer Simon Bray’s unique style in creating a contemporary and timeless room using the traditional principles of the managing partner’s office, but updating them with a luxurious elegance to create a comfortable, warm and inviting space.

Simon chose to use walnut and poplar cluster as the basis for his latest design for Green Amber Ltd. The freestanding desk is the focus of the room but does not dominate in the heavy style that can characterise similarly grand studies. A poplar cluster wrap with black walnut lines is held securely but gently in a pearlescent burgundy cradle. An elevated glass desk top ensures that despite its size, the desk does not feel like a heavy block in the centre of the room. Subtle downlighting on the cantilever desk enhances this sense of lightness still further.

Behind the desk there is a bank of high and low cabinets providing ample storage for all the technology required in a modern day office, as well as a wealth of filing space. Using predominantly walnut for the cabinetry, Simon has cleverly echoed the features of the bespoke desk with poplar cluster wraps on the tall cabinets and poplar handles on the low cabinets. The glass shelving not only mirrors the desk design but adds more practicality and lightens this storage area.

At the opposite wall, open walnut shelving is centred around a stylish drinks cabinet. The translucent doors, internal lighting and poplar handles are all cleverly designed to again give a lighter touch to the furniture. Simon chose open shelving to give greater versatility of storage, allowing any size of books, files and just as importantly personal pictures and artefacts to sit comfortably together.

The room is completed with a comfortable seating area and modern lighting to one side of an alcove. Within the alcove, a flat screen TV has been wall mounted on a pearlescent burgundy plinth. Poplar cluster panels to either side unite the two main storage areas, pull all the colours of the room together and provide an elegant, understated feature.

The result is not just the perfect office and workspace; it also becomes a comfortable place to enjoy spending time in.

Simon Bray, Designer, said:

“Good design is essential to blur the boundary between work and living space in the modern study. Today’s company directors and executives aren’t looking for a room that feels like a classic library or traditional boardroom. They want all the latest technology but they want it delivered in a luxurious, elegant and unfussy way. The study is one of the few rooms in a family home that can still be unapologetically an adult only environment, so it has to function beautifully as a workspace but also be warm, comfortable and relaxing.”

George Micallef, Managing Director of luxury property developer Green Amber Ltd said:

“I have worked with Simon for a number of years and his designs never fail to impress me, or more importantly, my clients. In today’s market, there is pressure on prices and buyers are becoming more demanding than ever. After the kitchen, a home office or study is one of the most important features my customers base their purchase decisions on. It is reassuring to know that Simon’s designs and furniture help my properties sell themselves.”
